2015-12-28 08:40:51 The introductory conference of the STEM Geniuses project On 21st December, 2015, the introductory conference of the STEM Geniuses project, which is one of the activities of dissemination and promotion of the project, was held in Gimnazija “Matija Mesić" grammar school. The conference began with the official greeting by Goran Zavor, headmaster of Gimnazija "Matija Mesić" grammar school. Project partners Antun Stojić, Vice Dean for science at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Slavonski Brod and Ljiljana Ptačnik, headmistress of Gimnazija Nova Gradiška grammar school expressed their satisfaction with the realisation of the project so far. Ines Martinović, project leader presented the aims of the project. A general aim of the project is to contribute to the increase in the number of high school students who enrol at STEM university programmes (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by helping them gain additional competencies within the STEM and ICT areas as well as to their success at their studies and in that way make them more competitive on the job market. A specific aim of the project is to develop innovative curriculums and create the conditions for implementing them in Gimnazija "Matija Mesić" and Gimnazija "Nova Gradiška" grammar schools. Other project activities include in-service training for teachers in curriculum development and forming of learning outcomes; renewable energy sources and innovative work methods titled “Quality school”; development of elective curriculums in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and ICT and renewable sources of energy and creating an e-learning portal where all digital content (all educational resources) used during the project will be available. A panel discussion titled "STEM - the future of the European Union", the moderator of which will be the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Slavonski Brod, will be organised and “STEM Club” where STEM experts will gather and give support to teachers in modernising the curriculums and making them more innovative will be formed. After the curriculums have been developed and STEM subject labs equipped, the final conference and STEM Club's open doors day will be organised for parents, students and general public.
